Does anyone know if SUSE plans to release a version of OpenOffice with GStreamer? Here is some history from an OpenOffice list discussion. Cheers, Bob Since wav files and other media play fine using OpenOffice under XP I think it would be most critical to get this functionality working under Linux. This is an important issue for those that wish to switch to Linux from Microsoft products. ------- Additional comments from nadavkav Sun Jul 22 13:31:17 +0000 2007 ------- i know that Debian and Fedora has a working copy of OO 2.2.x with GStreamer. so maybe you should check what they have done and add it here (main OO tree) or ask them to push it upstream ? it solved allot of multimedia issues and it works beautifully :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Here is some more interesting information. ------- Additional comments from radekdoulik@openoffice.org Mon Jul 23 08:18:52 +0000 2007 ------- nadavkav: SUSE, Debian, Fedora etc. all use ooo-build, which includes my code. It just wasn't upstreamed yet. BTW, it was developed by Novell Inc. ;-) Since Novell instrumented the code to fix this my question is how do I get a copy of OpenOffice from SUSE that allows me to hear/play multimedia stuff included in powerpoint presentations? Will this be included in 10.3 ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It should have been supported since SUSE Linux 10.1. The audio and video can be added in the "Insert/Movie and Sound". It should play in the fullscreen mode... If it does not work, please report a bug. Note that you need gstreamer-plugins-base-oil-32bit if you use 32-bit OOo on 64-bit system. This package was missing in the original release. It was later available via an online update. -- Best Regards, Petr Mladek software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: pmladek@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 952 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Petr for your response. In my case I have a 32-bit SUSE 10.2 OS. I just want to hear wav files or anything else that is embedded in power point slides if possible. Here are the gstreamer rpms I have loaded. gstreamer010-ffmpeg-0.10.2-0.pm.1 gstreamer010-fluendo-mp3-0.10.6-0.pm.1 gstreamer010-plugins-base-0.10.13-0.pm.1 gstreamer010-0.10.13-0.pm.1 I have the suse released version of Openoffice which is 2.1.10 as reported by help about. However, rpm reports: OpenOffice_org-2.1-19.1 Any suggestions for being able to hear the multimedia stuff on a slide presentation is most appreciated?. Before reporting a bug I thought I would check to see if I am running the right version and if you had any further illumination? You need to install gstreamer010-plugins-base-oil. If it does not help, please report a bug and add me to CC. My E-mail address in Bugzilla is pmladek@novell.com.

It is okay. The ".10" is just a minor release number the ooo-build (tarball with some build scripts and patches). I did not want to put it into the package version. The "19.1" is a release number of the package. It is incremented automatically. I can't control it. -- Best Regards, Petr Mladek software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: pmladek@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 952 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
