[SLE] Basic Network, Cable Modem question
Hello, Well, I just don't get it. I have my network up and running fine, masq. is ok, samba is fine, html, nfs, all working. But, I have been having problems with sendmail that I didn't have before. Here is the history: Old server: I used dhs.org to have a dynamic host. My hostname was xxxx.2y.net. In SuSE, my hostname was xxxx, and my domain was set to 2y.net. I had virtually no problems with the sendmail New Server: Now I moved to a real hostname, using tzo for dynamix updates. My hostname is aaaa, and my domain name is bbbb.com. the bbbb.com is updated via a perl script on my machine, giving it the IP. Now, I have difficulties receiving mail from Yahoo.com (5.4.4, can't find IP) but I can receive from other domains (excite.com). Now, tzo doesn't use an MX, but either did dhs.org (there is an option, which I didn't use). Both Servers: I don't use a caching DNS, rather just the resolv.conf. But, it just has my IP's DNS in it, not tzo's. So here is the question: Am I doing the right thing with they dynamic host? Should I set up a caching DNS? Will it help? Should I set up my machine to use tzo to resolv? How should my host file look? (here are my interfaces) for eth0, eth1, and eth2: 127.0.0.1 ?localhost? ?hostname? 192.168.1.1 (connected to LAN) ?what hostname goes here? it is the gateway for MASQ 192.168.1.2 ?hostname? this is my SAMBA host Sorry such a long and vague email, but I feel like I just don't get something. I wish I just had an E-1, router, and subnet - seems like it could be easier that way, without all this dynamic, sneaky stuff! Ron __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
