I suspect, at least I hope, that I've finally found the problem with the NVIDIA drivers and my SuSE8.1 system. Here is the output from 3Ddiag and 3Ddiag --mesasoft

For some reason the necessary links are not being made during the installation process. I've tried the new installation script, as well as installing the individual rpm's. I really need to be able to use OpenGL. Any suggestions for solutions will be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

You haven't responded to my question I posed you a couple of days ago: did you run 'SuSEconfig' after installing the nVidia RPMs? -- Computers are useless. They can only give you answers. Pablo Picasso
Talking of NVIDIA problems, has anyone successfully got the onboard LAN
working on an NFORCE 2 platform?
I have had no luck with the drivers made for 8.1 yet, any help appreciated.
( im referring to the nforce drivers from the nvidia site)

Yes, it is running fine. I posted it here on this list some weeks ago, you can read what I did to make it working. What exactly is your problem? regards, Matt

You're almost there: Run this as root: switch2nvidia_glx Then: SuSEconfg Finally, edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config file and make sure you have something like this: Section "Module" Load "type1" Load "dbe" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "v4l" Load "speedo" Load "extmod" EndSection Further down you also need this: Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce2 GTS" BusID "1:0:0" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" VendorName "NVidia" EndSection Notice where it says Driver, this is the most important line, make sure its says nvidia. nv will invoke the "slow" 2d driver. If you still have issues let us know. Matt

Ok, sometimes when updating the GLX drivers the symlinks aren't made because (I think) perhaps the installer sees the old synlnks and that part of the install script returns an OK/done when it really isn't. Two options. A) you can delete all the /usr/lib/libGL* stuff and reinstall the GLX drivers (and if need be use the "--nodeps" --force" flags). OR B) you can look at the /usr/lib/libGL* sym links. If something like libGL.so isn't pointing to libGL.so.1 or if libGL.so.1 is pointing to someother driver (not the libGL.so.1.0.4349.nv_glx/or what ever version) then delete the libGL.so (and in some cases libGL.so.1) and manually make the symlnk again. ln -s libGL.so.1 libGL.so (and if needed ln -s libGL.so.1.0.4349.nv_glx libGL.so.1). As I have often run into. The simlnks from old driver versions will point to drivers that aren't really there and most apps, unless you specifically point them at libGL.so.1.0.4349.nv_glx will point to libGL.so and hence that essentially points "nowhere" and you get a failure.
