I run SUSE9.2, but decided to install 9.1 on a spare hard drive so that I could try James' version of Gnome2.8. Then I installed APT, libraries, Lua and Synaptic to download the packages. They installed OK and Synaptic got all the headers from the repositories. But Synaptic won't run after this first time. When starting it from a terminal, it tries to load the headers from the hard drive, and then fails with this error message: (synaptic:4203): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 1827 (gtk_widget_hide): assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed Segmentation fault I have never had this before, and can't find anything about it in either the archives or on google. I ran Synaptic and 9.1 very successfully for many months. I have installed everything I can find on the 9.1 disks regarding GTK, but synaptic still won't run. The versions are the ones specified for SUSE9.1 on the linux01.gwdg.de site. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Keith

I have replaced APT and Synaptic with earlier versions, and they now work. I'll try to upgrade them with Synaptic, sometime, and see what happens. Cheers Keith
