I ran YAST Online Update last night and now I have a lot of problems, some of which I haven't found yet.
I got lot of these during a YOU update on 08/22/2006 - Some were really scary because of the package update being performed. (Y2LOG)
2006-08-22 19:37:00 <5> SuSE101(7129) [base] Exception.cc(log):94 rpmdb: PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery 2006-08-22 19:37:00 <5> SuSE101(7129) [base] Exception.cc(log):94 error: db4 error(-30977) from db->get: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery 2006-08-22 19:37:00 <5> SuSE101(7129) [base] Exception.cc(log):94 error: error(-30977) getting "m¡ ÷]b!^õ·ôïø·í·" records from Filemd5s index
Now on logging in to session, I get this unhandled exception and no updater icon in the panel. The update icon hasn't work in a while so this is hardly a nuisance:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object in <0x003d6> Novell.Zenworks.Gui.ZenTrayIcon:CheckUpdatesLoop () in (wrapper delegate-invoke) System.MulticastDelegate:invoke_void ()
Smart seems to have died, hangs on the media repo's.
Yast Online Update now appears to be broken as well. It is showing updates that have already been done, succesfully but doesn't seem to want to do any further updating.
Your RPM database is for some strange reason broken. Likely due to an earlier crash of RPM, a hardware or filesystem error or similar.
This confuses both ZMD and YAST.
Please run "rpm --rebuilddb" once.
Thanks, I will try this. The interesting thing was that the RPM error did not occur an every package update, just some. I am not aware of any system crashes that would have impacted the RPM Database. Clint
