Re: [SLE] JetDirect And RedHat
Hi Silviu,
With CUPS, have you tried setting them in the web interface? http://localhost:631/
OK .. I'll try it. Incidentally, I have now tried the RedHat printer configurator and, it has to be said, it was as easy (if not easier) than Windows. Undoubtedly this would be my chosen utility if I could run it on SuSE (the RH desktop, a KDE/Gnome kludge apparently, is fairly dire). James C. Rocks Equant Archway House Canary Wharf London E14 9SZ

But have you tried using the YaST2 printer setup module? It's relatively easy: 1. create new printer 2. choose printing method (network printing for JetDirect) 3. enter ip address and port number 4. customize other options (including CUPS classes and papersize) Give it a shot. Also, since you don't have any printers that need the foomatic filters, you should also be able to use the native CUPS interface. Go to 'http://localhost:631' (without the quotes) and just follow the "Add Printer" wizard. --Jerry Open-Source software isn't a matter of life or death... ...It's much more important than that!

There is no indication SuSE will support RedHat's printer configurator. If you want to use SuSE and aren't happy with the YaST2 printer module (in 8.1) then describe what you miss there. There will be many changes to simplify system administration in tools like YaST2 in the near future so your request may help to prioritize SuSE's efforts. General complaints are often useless. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
