Re: [SLE] Browser war hots up!!
It is also FAST. Being free it has a small panel in the upper right corner where ads flash are
SuSEfirewall??? (HINT)
I'm pushing it because the more Windoz users I can persuade to use it the less that will be using IE!!!
Good
The Linux version apparently isn't up to V5.0 yet.
The linux version is beta, has no java (IIRC), has no email client, and the preferences don't work properly. For payware I expect better than that. Payment only in US$ (annoying!), though that could be because all credit cards are American. I can't see a huge advantage of opera over konqueror. A few drawbacks in konqueror will be fixed soon. The development speed of opera doesn't appear to be neckbreaking. If however opera had been onto it and had a fine polished web browser now(!), it'd be worth money. As is, EUR40 for a stripped down beta is over the top. Volker
Last I heard its going to be a free version for Linux :-) Matt On Thu, 01 Feb 2001 19:20:50 Volker Kuhlmann wrote:

You don't pay for this (beta) release for Linux. It is a 30 day shareware licence (with nag screen on boot). The options will be the same as for MS version - free with ad banner, or $US39 minus the ad.
I can't see a huge advantage of opera over konqueror. A few drawbacks in konqueror will be fixed soon. The development speed of opera doesn't appear to be neckbreaking.
Now the Win version is complete, most of the development effort is going into Linux / Mac versions. If however opera had been onto it and had

They do have " a fine polished web browser now"!
As I said earlier, you don't pay for the beta!

Volker, for me, there's only 3 things that need fixing and/or adding to Konqueror to make it 100% viable for me. First, JAVA...not good support, and then add features to send a page AND also send a link. Other than that, Konqueror is FAST and reliable. If they'd do what should have been done a long time ago in Kmail, and all ALL recipients to be bcc (blind copy), I'd use nothing but Kmail. 'Hope all this has been fixed in 7.1 with a new KDE2.
