I am using SuSE 8.0 on a Dell PowerEdge 1650. The server has dual on board GigE NICS. Which is connected to a Cisco 6506 Switch. Currently it is only connected to a 10/100 port on the switch till our GigE module arrives. The problem I am having is that I only get about 65kbytes of transfer max from that line. I have tried switching ports on the switch and many different patch cables thinking it might be one of the 2. No matter what I do I get a burst trasnfer of 110kb and it dwindles down to 65kb within 30 seconds. I have
Worked like a champ. *Smack's forehead* Didn't even think it could be the switch. I have 2 PE2650's with dual gige's as well and this didn't happen. Thanks alot. Tom tried
both nics thinking that one of them might be bad but I get the same results from both. The Nics are using the e1000 module. I don't know what to check to make sure the nics are working properly. What should I do to check this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
This is usually indicative of a duplex mismatch, set the port on the 6506 to auto-sense and the problem should vanish. I have 7 Dell 1650's 1U's in a co-lo facility, and I had to do this in order to get collisions to stop happening.
do a /sbin/ifconfig and check the errors on the interface, after changing the switch to auto-sense (for speed/duplex), this problem should vanish
