This looks to me like a problem with apsfilter, but I am too ignorant to know how to spot and correct it.

I don't answer you as I have NO experience with using "raw", I mean "lpr -Praw". I have often wondered why that is offered in there for a choice, so I cann't help you. I do believe there is a printer's linux newsgroup where you might find the answer. A search engine would open the internet to you. William G. Madsen wrote:

Well, in German there are these funny letters: an a,A,o,O or u,U with 2 dots above them and the sharp s. These are not in the 128 ASCII code signs, so -Pascii assumes these texts not to be texts and puts them through the gs - filter. Now, sometimes you just want to dump the data onto the printer (it's much faster, especially if you don't own a laser printer), for other people, the ghostscript does not work properly (yet). So sometimes you'd need to force raw. -Wolfgang -- PGP 2 welcome: Mail me, subject "send PGP-key". If you've nothing at all to hide, you must be boring. I hope you don't mean my msg? I got 14 msg this morning and 51 msg this afternoon from Jean-Michal Dossogne, and just figured something was wrong on SuSE end and they would get it straight. Now I noticed this one to the group. If it is my message that is repeating, I don't know why and the other msg started before mine. jdkc wrote:

I had the same problem and found the answer in the S.u.S.E. Support Data Base, called "Trouble with the raw device of lpr" on the SuSE website. Essentially, change one line in /var/lib/apsfilter/filter/raw from eval $DECOMPRESS $PRINT_PS to $DECOMPRESS cat - and that should hopefully fix it. It worked for me. On Sat, 2 May 1998, William G. what might be wrong with my EtherNet? I installed everything and recompiled
the kernel with EtherNet NE2000 support and everything like normal, but for
some reason the system keeps saying that it can't find the Dummy0 or Eth0.

Well... I've got the Eth0 to work. I had to set up everything manually, ie.
put the info in LILO. I have never had to do that before. But that works at
least. Still have yet to get the Dummy0 to work.

Did you try using Yast to setup the card? You can also config it manually by going to /etc/rc.config. Yast is a little easier to use, though. I am using 5.2, so if you need a little more help, let me know :) HTH, Danny kepe@home.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
