We're having a real problem with NFS here (files and directories suddenly becoming invisible or permission denied). This is on a Compaq server with hardware RAID (cpqarray) and Reiser filesystem for everything but /boot. Someone suggested that there is a problem with the combination of Reiser and NFS, and that seems to be borne out by a patch on the namesys.com site. This is a SuSE 7.1 box (kernel 2.4.0) with no modifications, do we need to patch for this? I assumed that SuSE's kernels were already patched for Reiser. Or is there an update somewhere that we don't know about? -- ____________________________________________________________ Glenn Holmer gholmer@weycogroup.com Programmer/Analyst phone: 414.908.1809 Weyco Group, Inc. fax: 414.908.1601
Hi, I don't know about the specifics of your question, but I know from hard experience that the 2.4.0 kernel had problems with reiserfs. At one point my system crashed and the entire partition was completely beyond repair. If for no other reason I strongly suggest you upgrade the kernel. regards Anders On Thursday 30 August 2001 17.50, Glenn Holmer wrote:

What's the right (SuSE) way to do that? Where do I find a newer SuSE kernel for 7.1? -- ____________________________________________________________ Glenn Holmer gholmer@weycogroup.com Programmer/Analyst phone: 414.908.1809 Weyco Group, Inc. fax: 414.908.1601

Thanks, we'll put that on in short order. But the README mainly talks about running Oracle, and the Reiser page (namesys.com) seems to say that kernels below 2.4.6 need a patch for NFS with Reiser. Do we still need to patch for this, or has SuSE patched their 2.4.4 kernel already? Would someone from SuSE please address this? -- ____________________________________________________________ Glenn Holmer gholmer@weycogroup.com Programmer/Analyst phone: 414.908.1809 Weyco Group, Inc. fax: 414.908.1601
