2.4.18 kernel & lilo line mem=nopentium
I just made my second attempt to upgrade my kernel from 2.4.16 to 2.4.18 (from /people/mantel/next/RPM). First attempt had my machine locking up when I used kpp and opened an Xterm. Second attempt seemed better, I could open kpp, then an xterm, but when I opened Mozilla, my computer locked up tight. I checked, I could open Mozilla + Xterm, kpp + Mozilla, kpp + Xterm, but if Mozilla was open, then I opened kpp, then an xterm it still locked up. I decided to try removing the lilo append line in the subject (workaround for K6/Athlon bug), and now it is working great. FYI. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

I *think* that the bug is fixed, or rather checked for, by kernel version 2.4.18; making mem=nopentium redundant. It should simply ignore it rather than acting badly though; maybe you should report this to feedback@suse.com -- If a group of _N persons implements a COBOL compiler, there will be _N-1 passes. Someone in the group has to be the manager. -- T. Cheatham

I spoke too soon. It locked up a few more times, so I had to go back to 2.4.16. I sent another email to feedback@suse.com regarding the problem. Sorry for the too quick post. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871
Joe,
According the file at http://www.suse.de/en/company/contact/index.html
feedback should be sent to feedback@suse.de not feedback@suse.com.
All of my emails to feedback@suse.de worked also :-)
