[opensuse] Standard for writing/reading CD-RW for Suse 10.2 & Windows
I need to transfer datafiles (OOo) from/to Suse 10.0, 10.3, Win XP, Win Vista, Win 98 computers. I am having problem finding a standard other than ISO9660 for CD-R. I am hoping to use CD-RW, or DVD-RW. Help? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

iso9660 with Joliet extension should be supported by all versions you name. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That *IS* the standard. (What part of International STANDARDS Organization eludes you?) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

And isn't much help for data, as file names are limited to eight characters with three character extensions and directories are restricted to a small amount of levels (forgot the actual number), as you very well know! That's why there are extensions to it, namely rockridge and joliet. Rockridge would be the most appropriate, as it offers long names and the usual Unix access rights but is not supported under Windows. So the next best thing is Joliet, which at least offers long file names and deeper directory hierarchy.

My Aaron, showing the nice side of your personality again? Seems you're eager to try out new mail accounts. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

regardless of a new email account, his posting habits make it easy to spot him, and the filter grows by one each time. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Why not just use both extensions? K3b can write both to the disk, then on Unix-like systems, you get all you are used to, and on Windoze systems, you get all they are used to.. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What's that then? Are you perhaps thinking of the International Organization for Standardization http://www.iso.org/ ? :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

(What part of International STANDARDS Organization eludes you?) Well, the fuss over OOXML certainly throws "standards" into doubt. ;-)

You know what they say: "The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from." RRS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
