In suse 9.2 recently updated I now can not open the DVDRW drive either manually or with eject. I removed the device from yast rebooted and reinstalled still the light remains on as though there were a disk inside. Also though yast found the device which is on hdc the software apparently sees it as hdd? I also get some flaky error on boot about not having a 80 pin cable on the second ide. I installed 9.2 using this drive now it does not work. I will check the physical connections but I am puzzled. I have the 100mb output of hardware info. What should I look for? -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

Hi Carl, This is usually as a result of access to the folder where the device is mounted. Check all terminals and applications, cd out of the directory and close apps that are accessing the drive, the you can push the button on the device. -- -- Chadley Wilson Production Line Superintendant Pinnacle Micro Manufacturers of Proline Computers ==================================== Exercise freedom, Use LINUX =====================================

Manual external button is iffy. I have to use the little whole. ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

If your light is on all the time, it may be that you have the IDE cable in backwards. If you do this to a floppy drive the light stays on, maybe with optical drives too. I would at least check. James W

Then why was I able to install with it a month ago all. I have made no hardware changes since then. -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/
