Re: [SuSE Linux] Html Editor under SuseLinux
Try Nedit with the html syntax highlighting - then go and view a few 'sources' of web pages you admire and copy what you need from them. WYSIWIG html editors usually put loads of crap in that no self-respecting web author will put up with! - and htlm is really very simple... :-) -----Original Message----- From: John Lewis <jayell@mcmail.com> To: suse-linux-e@suse.com <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Date: 05 December 1998 23:04 Subject: Re: [SuSE Linux] Html Editor under SuseLinux

Try the one that comes with Netscape - I beleave you have Netscape on your S.u.S.E. CD. Netscape composer is a quite good editor.
I have read however that Netscape writes 'bad' html which does not display correctly in all browsers.
I have up to now used a text editor and tried to write html to 3.2 standards as set out in 'Instant HTML' published by Wrox Press. I was quite surprised recently when I tried viewing one of my pages containing tables in IE to find it did not display correctly although it did display OK in Netscape and SO.
I was using a friends machine to set up a website for him, had written the
on my linux system and sneaker-netted them to his system running windross95. This was the first time ever that I had used IE.
Since it is important for him, and his business, that people using IE can see his pages correctly I am concerned that the editor I use writes 'correct'
the 5.3 pages html.
Obviously what I had thought to be correct, isn't so far as IE is concerned.
So can anyone confirm whether or not Netscape's output conforms to html standards and what about StarOffice?

As an "Oh by the way" - for a class project, we made a web site for lenders and borrowers (<A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/"><A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/</A">http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/</A</A>>). One of us knew very little about programming, so she did the HTML using MS Publisher. A simple page with three or four graphics was over 15K. Since these pages were going to be printed by a CGI program, we needed to edit them down a bit. I edited the Publisher trash for hours taking out the junk. It was horrible. On the other hand, when this project was done, I stopped using anything except pico and nedit to make html pages. Hi All; I've been playing with WordPerfect 8 for Linux and just found that it will do HTML. I don't know how good it is, but I've been a WP fan for over 10 years. As soon as possible I'm going to redo my site with WP to see how it does. And how it works. I might add that just in General WP8 works better and faster on my little 486/33 than Netscape ever did. Hi Xavi; I got it from Linuxcentral.com you can email them at sales@linuxcentral.com. It was part of the Linux Software Archive. This archive is a 4 CD set of all kinds of good stuff for Linux. It has (for example) kde, gnome, lesstif, gtk, java, games, and all kinds of utils. It costs 5.95$ US dollars plus postage. "es" is Spain, right? So postage to you would be the same as to me in Germany. Al together it was 11.56$. A nice thing about them is that they will take personal checks in U$. So for me at least it was easy to get. From the time I mailed the check to them it took about 14 days before I had the cds in hand. IF you order this set be sure to tell them that you want a set with WP8 on it. They change thier archives about 2-3 times per year. There is one problem with this version of WP8. It is the prerelease version and has a 30 days countdown on it. After that it stops working, no big deal you can just reinstall it. BTW if anyone on the list knows how to turn the countdown off let me know thanks.
