[opensuse] charachter "è" and "é" make files not visible in a folder on NTFS partition
Hi everyone! After many tests i finally have found the cause of a folder in wich was invisibile any file or subfolder, this folder was resident on an NTFS partition and had a sub folder named "Michael Boublè", changing this in "Michael Bouble" (entering from windows) all other subfolders and files turned visible. I didn't try with the linux partition (ext4). This problem was not present with old versions of Opensuse I had (11.2) I have this situation in my desktop PC: OpenSuse11.3 x64 with KDE 4.4.4 3 partitions (double boot with Windows and Opensuse by Grub 1.5) 1-NTFS -2 EXT4 (/) 3- EXT4 (/HOME) Processor: AMD Athlon x64 dualcore Ram: 2GB GPU: Nvidia GE7300LE HD: Seagate Maxtor Thank's a lot for eventual solutions and suggests and sorry for my bad english ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I can't help, but I had a similar phenomenon on my office box: one folder (on a filesystem mounted via CIFS, part of our AD domain's DFS) is named "Präsentationen". With shell and Midnight Commander, I can cd into the folder and see several files. With KDE file managers (Dolphin, Konqueror), I only see another folder "Präsentationen" inside "Präsentationen"... I stopped at 5th level... I never noticed that before, but it is a long time since I last met a german umlaut on those filesystems ;-) It's an up-to-date openSUSE x86_64 with KDE 4.4, about ten local filesystems (ext2/3/4, xfs, btrfs, ocfs2), DFS and some other remote filesystems, CPU AMD Athlon II X4 605e, 8 GiB RAM, nVidia graphics, 750 GB Seagate. I've partially solved the problem: I do not think is an OpenSuse11.3-bug: I simply tried to write with those damned italian carachters (è and é) in a logic partition instead of a primary part. (as I did before) and the problem does not exist! So I did a backup and with parted magic transformed that partition! Il 09/08/2010 20:28, Werner Flamme ha scritto:

That's impossible, having a primary or a logical is not related at all to what you describe. It is probably because of change in format options or mount options. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 11.2 x86_64 "Emerald" GM (Elessar))
