Kim, I recently upgraded to glibc2.0.6 with all the add-ons. I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, but I'm no guru either. I followed the Glibc2 HOW-TO (section 5 - Installing Glibc as the primary C library) to the letter, and the installation went completely faultlessly. It took a while, but it worked, and I was ecstatic (to say the least) when the "Hello World!" program worked at the first time of asking. Get a hold of the glibc2.0.6 sources and all the add-ons (crypt, localedata, and linuxthreads), and have the HOW-TO open in xless at the same time as you have an xterm open to type in the commands. Provided you don't have an overly complicated setup, you should be able to just step your way through it according to the HOW-TO. My congratulations and thanks go to Eric Green, who wrote the HOW-TO, for an easy-to-understand-and-follow and readable account of how to replace a fairly critical system component.
