What I want to do is to manage the configuration of an Apache 1.3 server that runs as an ordinary user. Using Yast2, I created a resource group, mambo, and added two file resources. Exiting and reentering Yast2 confirms that it has stored the data, somewhere. "scpm list_groups" shows it knows about the group. However, strace indicates that the file resources are not checked. Neither file resource is in /var/lib/scpm/scdb/scdb.db.
From wandering around in Yast2 "Profile Manager" it looks like SCPM only really manages services (i.e., there is a file in /etc/init.d/) and a service has file dependencies. Is this correct? If so, do I need to add a /etc/init.d/mambo file that starts the user space Apache server?
TIA, Jeffrey

To answer my own question, yes. I added a "mambo" file to /etc/init.d/ containing just "exit 0". I added the mambo service to the mambo resource group in Yast2 and presto, it works as expected. I may make the start file start the user land Apache, but the basic problem is currently solved. Documentation needs to mention the service requirement for resource groups. Jeffrey
