A SuSE-Tour on first-boot ?
Most hear have probably sometime in their lives experienced a Windows-XP Tour ... an introducting to all the features and all the major programs on first boot or first -install .. well kinda ... As far as I remember there is something similiar in SuSE but does it show one the basic programs ... where to find them .. i.e. the first steps ... connecting to the net .. where to get help .. file-manager ... all the basic stuff the user needs to know to use his/her system ? ___________________________________________________________ To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! You have a SUSE Tour at install time... while copying packages you are introduced to the technologies and applications present in the distribution. Of course is not an exhaustive one, but is a good use of that waiting time... Daniel Winston Graeme wrote:

Could you please not bottom post? Thanks. Concerning the presentation during the instalation, I think it is not done very well. It does not invite to read, because the changes are way too slow. I perhaps read the first page and then go on to do other stuff. Why not more information and put it in a rotation. Or put a small game in there, so you can play it while the thing is installing. I think slackware used to have tetris during instalation. I am sure there are enough small games out there that would be usable. Mmm. Use a different game with each beta and then name the Beta after the game. :-) Be sure to include a NO button with the question if you want to reboot. -- houghi http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Making_a_DVD_from_CDs
I hate bottom posting... I think I did top posting (on top of the quoted message) :) And frankly it bothers me all this crap that is not good or is rude or whatever to do top posting, because my logic says that I am more interested in reading the answer rather than the topic that I probably read several times already in all the previous quoted messages, and I hate scrolling several pages just to reach to the actual relevant (hopefully:)) information. And if I chose to do top posting, I think I have the freedom of chosing this... if you don't like it, you can delete my messages without reading them... :) It's like me asking you: Could you please set your mail client to write with this Adobe Utopia font? Cause I like it better... or it looks better on my screen... or whatever :) Related to the speed of installation slideshow, I asked that once as well, and been told that there isn't a way to speed it up or slow it down, but I think it rather depended on the time it took on a specific computer for the system to install... and was an average time per slide based on the calculated estimated install time... I think, not sure, someone from SUSE can answer more specifically... Daniel PS Pls note the joking tone of this message :) don't take things personally :D houghi wrote:

I'm really curious. Do you read a page in a book from top to bottom or bottom to top? If you read from bottom to top, then by all means top post. If not, well..... The analogy is wrong :) A message in a thread is by no means a book page, since most of the information has already been read, at least once... Chronologically speaking, is like reading a resume, the most recent information is also the most relevant one... the rest is merely background information... Maybe this personal opinion of mine is because I have a journalism - mass communication education... and news/information for me is more relevant if it is more recent... But any argument is useless, it's a simple matter of personal choice/opinion and we're all free/entitled to have one, despite the fact that some people like it or not... Daniel mike wrote:

Uhh, no.. unless you are using outlook. Then you are forced to top post. But don't worry, I really could care less how you post. I don't have to read them anymore.

I'd suggest you do a search on email netiquette. I don't keep the address handy, or I'd give it to you.

Ahh, good, so you write a story from the bottom up. Put the most relevant information at the bottom of the story.

Absolutly right. Let's grow up a bit & care less about top or bottom - posting or such. Reg.: SuSE-Tour I dont think enhancing or changing the info during install is so important. Users cant go back to that & look at some advice given again .. well xcept if they reinstall. And people might be tempted to do something more useful than stare at the installation. And BTW during my 9.3 (purchased) installation this "slide-presentation" didn't work at all ... it allways showed the same picture. And we have far greater possibilities if it is something on a running system - like internet links, video et c. So I dont see the install-show as an option. Simply enhancing the Current-Intro tour there is when booting up the system for the first time seems more like it. And the person installing the system might not be the person using the system. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
