Have you tried with lilo on floppy? Greetings, Nash On Monday 13 August 2001 21:13, you wrote:

I just tried it and the LILO part works, but that doesn't mount my root partition properly, or at all. I get the "Run fsck manually!" message and a prompt to login as root but my USB keyboard doesn't work at that point. My root is Reiser anyway so an fsck could only screw things up worse :-)* - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7eSPQ+FOexA3koIgRAiPaAKCrdyL35KksLMTEykPNRQeDnvMdQACcCY0Y 7ZSjVn9vhZWnQBooeJ9tarQ= =/TvD -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
You should be able to include the reiserfs module with the bootdisk (I thought there was a modules disk that comes with the whole package). Next you should be able to mount your root. Otherwise I can't help you. Oh..if I remember correctly there should be an equivalent for fsck for reiser, but I could be mistaken :-). On Tuesday 14 August 2001 15:12, you wrote:

Happens to me all the time while I am playing with kernels. I use a boot floppy to start any kernel on the partition that I want to boot (always a good idea to have a floppy handy). Check /etc/lilo.conf for a statement like "boot=/dev/hda6", followed by a line "install=/boot/boot.b. Where there is a line "image=/boot/vmlinuz(or with optional numbers)", make sure that vmlinuz exists in /boot. Type "lilo -C /etc/lilo.conf" and the result should be a list made up of each "label=xxx" from lilo.conf. If not, you will get error messages that will be an indication of the future failure of lilo to boot a kernel. In that case, post more questions. Aha! The 'install=/boot/boot.b' line was missing. How does that happen? I added it and LILO works fine now, but it won't mount my /boot partition (when I tried a floppy, I thought it was root, but I obviously didn't look very hard), instead, asking for a root password to do a manual fsck on /dev/hda1. It claims that the superblock could not be read. I'm starting to think it's a geometry thing... I previously recompiled my kernel to include Reiser, as well. However, when I boot with the install disks, it comes up fine, /boot and all. I unmounted boot and did a fsck and it seems to be ok. Ext2 is compiled into the kernel I made, too. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7eTSF+FOexA3koIgRAsl4AKCJOSaqMF3DJ62nxlEPFDH0kQK1tACfWHZh Hsis3rNwBVuPotzFHsMGfb4= =4frj -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Aha! I had totally forgot that I enabled devfs in the kernel to try it out. Apparently, /dev/hda1 doesn't actually exist in that case. I should have read more about it, I had thought that SuSE was 'devfs ready'. Thanks, guys, for the help. I'll recompile my kernel after lunch. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7eTf5+FOexA3koIgRAmUoAJkB7WDROPmXSCJpeXpQapSuyLa0YACeK9db EiKHkRkExAjTf51XR9MPN8I= =lZjq -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Quanta Plus appears to have PHP (including debugging) support but I haven't tried it.
Perl ?
I believe the accepted 'IDE' for Perl is Vi or Emacs and a commandline. Even ActivePerl doesn't contain an IDE (whereas ActivePython has a very nice IDE). I code in Python and most of the time I just use Konsole with a few shells open. I switch between them using shift-left/right and it's very quick for me. I've only bothered with the ActivePython IDE in Windows. I am impressed with Kwrite, though. I'd like to see a menu for doing custom commands on the file currently being edited: edit, compile, etc... PFE for Windows has that. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7eXEd+FOexA3koIgRAtkAAJ9TDV6khBCFCuJP/A1nNS3bXMdlJwCePJuY eCCfjzsNdwGHznDRRC1czyo= =0rCp -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
