[opensuse] change in KDE repos/package numbering?
I haven't changed any repos in over a month but now it seems many KDE packages want to be downgraded using zypper dup. One example is kdm: v | kdm | package | 4.7.4-6.30.2 | x86_64 | KDE 4.7 Release Packages (openSUSE_12.1) v | kdm | package | 4.7.4-6.30.2 | i586 | KDE 4.7 Release Packages (openSUSE_12.1) v | kdm | package | 4.7.2-6.4.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE 12.1 Local ISO v | kdm | package | 4.7.2-6.4.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.1-Oss v | kdm | package | 4.7.2-6.4.1 | i586 | openSUSE-12.1-Oss i | kdm | package | 4.7.4-10.10 | x86_64 | (System Packages) I have 4.7.4-10.10 installed (as indicated by "(System Packages)") and zypper dup wants to install 4.7.4-6.30.2, obviously a lower version number. And using openSUSE search I cannot find 4.7.4-10.10 (or newer) anywhere. Have the repos been changed at all? I have the following additional repos for KDE added: # | Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh ---+-------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------+---------+-------- 1 | KDE_Extra_47 | Additional packages maintained by the KDE team (KDE_Release_47_openSUSE_12.1) | Yes | Yes 2 | KDE_Release_47 | KDE 4.7 Release Packages (openSUSE_12.1) | Yes | Yes 3 | KDE_Unstable_Playground | Unstable KDE Applications (KDE_Release_47_openSUSE_12.1) | Yes | Yes Any hints? -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Probably due to the openSUSE buildservice servers being broken (until Monday AM their time). They lost three drives out of one array. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I read about that on the factory site, yeah bummer big time, but all of my repos refreshed without warning. I think (bad memory) there was some discussion about packages changing location or version since 4.8 has now been released into the wild on the KDE: repo. I just wanted to make sure before I downgraded sixth some packages. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, unfortunately this is a long standing problem with the build service. At any given time, you have "updates" in other repositories which have lower release numbers than the packages in the original openSUSE repositories. Release number handling between repositories in OBS is and has always been completely broken (there is no way to say a package in repo A should get a higher release number than the same package in repo B, there is no way at all to guarantee a strictly increasing sequence of release numbers) Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Sadly not even that helps. The release numbers within a repo will frequently reset for no reason I have been able to determine Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the help. I'm going to zypper dup my laptop and if all goes well I'll dup my desktop. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
