Hylafax problem cont'd

Following up my own post, I checked rc.config for FAX instead of fax and there is an option there to START_HYLAFAX="no" It's set to no and hasn't been changed to my knowledge. It seems there's a faxsetup program it wants me to run, but I don't want to run it and get into a mess with something I don't even want. Also I'm checking the index on netsys.com/suse-linux-e/. Searching on Hylafax got 558 hits and I've read the first 10. People who want fax and trying to get it to work. Sure hope someone can tell me the quick way out.

Hi, It *might* (no guarantees), help us to help you if you included that root email in a subsequent post. Hylafax, like God, is subtle but not malicious ;-) Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

A further thought. As a matter of interest does your /etc/init.d/rc3.d contain a file called S__hylafax (where the underscores represent some number)? Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

Yes. /etc/init.d/rc3.d contains a file called S11hylafax which is a link
that points to the parent dir to a script named hylafax. I'm no expert here
and don't pretend to understand the script completely but it looks on the
surface like it's doing an "exit" on START_HYLAFAX="yes" which is the
opposite of what my sense of the situation would have it be. Looks like
maybe the script is broken. I may try backing up the original script and
experimenting with it. Thanks, Geoff.

You are welcome. You could also just try removing that link entirely for the time being. You can always recreate it if you need to, but I think that getting rid of it may cure your problem because that will stop the system trying to start hylafax at boot-time.
