[opensuse] Netinstall path for 11.1 broken... :-(
Hi, Checking my opensuse links, not many are still working, so i have start all over again collecting new ones that work... As i wanted to setup an imap server on an old machine, i encountered some hardware problems i was not yet able to solve.... The machine i wanted to use doesn't have a dvd, and the bios does support an usb FDD to boot from, but no usb DVD. As it was the latest beta-bios for that machine, there was no help here... I thought off 11.1 to install from a netinstall iso, but no netinstall iso found.. I tried : http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/ and tried to install the openSUSE11_1_NET.exe , but after the first steps, it was not able to find the path.... that is what happens if url's change... :-( well, many hours lost in fruitless attempts to get an opensuse serverversion onto an old machine.... I guess i'll keep on trying to find something that works... ;-) regards, Rob. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) well, i was afraid this would happen... when i point to: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss the installer tells me it is invalid... Does anyone know where to point the installer to? tia, regards, Rob. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) As no Net.iso can find the repo, and i don't know the right url, i thought of columbus egg, and pointed to the usb-dvd for 11.1. This works. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) Not.. :-( now the installer was a long way, but could not find the contenkey on the dvd, so the installation hed to be aborted.... Try again, looked in the box, and there sat, in the back, label down: 11.1 cd1! I hope that i now am able to finish this, else i am going to look for another os underneath my imap server.... Now it is looking for the openSUSE-NonOSS-Ad-on 11.1-0 (Disk1) And this while a dvd with everything is in the other drive! This is getting ridiculous....How can the os not getting installed, when a complete dvd is in the drive? I am beginning to loose my nerve.... grrmpfff... Well, install on hold, and first dl and burn: openSUSE-11.1-Addon-NonOss-BiArch-i586-x86_64.iso -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) Maybe look for 11.2 or 11.3
I did, but these are also not able to find the path... 11.2 was the best choice, as from the installer part everything looked better than from 11.3... Well, i supposed that was coming... It would not matter to me, if 11.2, or 11.3 could be installed over the internet, as one should expect with a net iso... Every time I've done an internet install, I've simply downloaded the network install ROM and let it do it's thing. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, whattayeknow, seems the networkcable was broken this way, that the clip to secure the plug in its socket was torn off: the cable was sitting in the socket, but not entirely to the bottom: no contact.... So you see, i made a lot of fuss about something that was not it..... i am deeply ashamed... :-s.. But now it works.... Did a lot of unnessesary things, cluttered the list with lies! Coming back here to say so helped a lot. The entire story from start to finish serves as instruction and example for newbies, but only when it includes this final post that explains away the rest, which many do not ever bother to do.
