May I add that it's fairly simple to overclock, and gives no problem in this state? I have a K6-2 350 taken to 380 (but I managed to reach 400) and it works just fine, with win as well as linux. A very good processor, I add, even if I haven't understand if it goes faster or slower than a PII... some say faster, some slower, I don't know. I use it and that's OK! ;) I was planning to upgrade to celeron 400... but, thinking twice, I decided not... Who need it? And who needs a PIII, either? For everyday applications I guess also a 266 CPU works fine, these days the only things that really need a better CPU are 3D games, and they works much better buying a 3dfx card... so I decided to spare my bucks for something else (SuSE 6.1, maybe? ;). This is kind of off-topic, but 3dfx is currently far from the "king" of 3D acceleration. The Riva TNT card is much better than the Voodoo 2, while the upcoming TNT 2 completely out-performs the upcoming Voodoo 3. XFree86 already has support for the TNT (since 3.3.3), too. If you want to know how and why... any 3D site will tell you. I just had to say this because it saddens me that so many people equal 3D with 3dfx. It's the same as thinking that "computers = MS Windows". :((( -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I thought Xfree support was non-accelerated for the TNT? -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

It is (like any other card) accelerated for 2D. Very fast, too. As for 3D, well, there really isn't 3D yet for Linux, except for Quake in 3dfx, using an old port of Glide and Mesa. (I think both Xinside and MetroLink were doing something about that, but I'm not sure) I boot Windoze to play games, and there I have the best 3D card for Direct3D and OpenGL (this latter with a full ICD, which works great with "serious" stuff too). On Linux (which I use for everything except games) I have a very fast XFree86 driver. Both nVidia and 3dfx have promised "full" 3D for Linux / XFree86 in the future, but until then, I have to use Windoze for games.
