[S.u.S.E. Linux] GIMP and GTK 1.0 problem
As someone suggested me yesterday, I' ve removed Gimp and GTK 0.97, I installed GTK 1.0 (compiled source), I reinstalled Gimp but when I start Gimp, I get use@Voyager:/home/suse > gimp parsing "/home/suse/.gimp/gtkrc" parsing "/usr/share/gimp/0.99.15/gimprc" parsing "/home/suse/.gimp/gimprc" parsing "/home/suse/.gimp/pluginrc" /usr/lib/gimp/0.99.15/plug-ins/script-fu: can't resolve symbol 'g_string_hash' /usr/lib/gimp/0.99.15/plug-ins/script-fu: can't resolve symbol 'g_string_equal' Starting extensions: extension_script_fu wire_read: unexpected EOF ...and I have to type CTRL+C to stop the process that does not exit by itself. GTK seems to have been installed correctly as I compiled some programs that require 1.0 version but Gimp doesn' t work (up to yesterday it worked fine). I' ve checked Gimp dependencies and they seem to be satisfied: use@Voyager:/usr/bin > ldd gimp libgtk.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgtk.so.1 (0x4000a000) libgdk.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgdk.so.1 (0x4009e000) libglib.so.1 => /usr/lib/libglib.so.1 (0x400bc000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x400c7000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40166000) libm.so.5 => /lib/libm.so.5 (0x40171000) libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x4017a000) What can I do to make Gimp working (besides compiling and installing Gimp from source package)? Thanks for your help. Bye. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Here's what I'd strongly recommend, and this is how I upgraded both
Gimp and GTK:
1) remove all traces of the SuSE gimp and gtk from your system
2) install latest gtk in /usr/local
3) compile latest gimp against latest gtk in /usr/local
Unless you're on a slow machine, this is really the way to do it.
The problem is just that 5.1's gimp and gtk date back from when
5.1 was new :)
