epson ink level - SuSE-10 oss
Anyone managed to check epson ink level using the kde printing manager. Seems to require raw mode, but then you can't specify a printer driver! mtink compiles but doesn't run, kink won't compile. Geoff

If you don't need a graphical frontend, try /usr/bin/escputil but read "man escputil" before (note the "CAUTION:" warning). Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5 Mail: jsmeix@suse.de 90409 Nuernberg, Germany WWW: http://www.suse.de/

nice! you need to be root to do this ( read-write access to the printer), and my epson printer was /dev/usb/lp0: #> escputil --raw-device=/dev/usb/lp0 -i Escputil version 4.2.7, Copyright (C) 2000-2001 Robert Krawitz Escputil comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type 'escputil -l' This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; type 'escputil -l' for details. Please don't hijack and mark this thread as SOLVED, you didn't start it! I aren't looking for a command line solution, I already had it! Geoff

I humbly apologize, I forgot the original thread. all I did was to add a shell script with that line in it, and I run that shell script- checkepson, when I want the details. I was thrilled just to get that far! -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800
