kscd missing sound w/SuSE 7.3
I just tried experimenting with CDDB today, after all of the excellent advice from the list. Imagine my surprise when everything works except for the sound with kscd. I don't have any other sound problems on my system and audio CD sound works fine under Win 2k. I have looked at the list archives and the SuSE DB, but haven't found anything that applies to me. Can anyone out there help? I am using SuSE 7.3 on a dual boot box that has a Soyo Dragon Plus motherboard with built in sound card and ALSA drivers. Cheers, Brian
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 When I had a somewhat similar problem the other day, Dave Sand offered this advice which did the trick: - -- Sounds like the link on /dev/cdrom is wrong. su to root ll /dev/cdrom Should show "/dev/cdrom -> /dev/sr0" Most likely is /dev/hdb or something similar. rm /dev/cdrom ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom - -- I have a CD-RW drive that was listed as /dev/hdc and changed the link to /dev/sr0 and now I have sound. Also in my case I could get workman CD player to work, but not kscd. Perhaps my thread is not yet in the archives, but it was just a few days ago. No dice: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Mar 4 17:33 /dev/cdrecorder -> /dev/sr0 Woops, I probably should have mentioned that I only have one CD-ROM and that it is an Acer CDRW 24X10X40X. Cheers, Brian

Brian, I can't promise this will work, but give it a try: in KDE, bring up Multimedia > Sound > gamix. There's a slider labeled "Output Accumulator". Make sure it's all the way up (100%). Try kscd. It worked for me. -- Regards, gr, in /usually/ sunny, balmy Florida's Suncoast. Didnut: n. A way-old, stale common kind of pastry.
