Hmm. 'Curious and more curious,' said Alice, after her grammar lesson. Installing SuSE 7.3 works fine. SymBIOS adapter and DAC1100 are detected with no problems, all modules loaded, all penguins fed and ready to swim. So I guess the problem is with the SuSE 8.0 sym54c8xx.o module. Installing 7.3 and then upgrading to 8.0 isn't exactly my idea of fun, but needs must. Thanks to everyone who emailed me with suggestions! Among other things, it has a SymBIOs SYM53c895 adapter, to which is connected a Mylex DAC1100 RAID controller. Two 8GB disks are connected to this controller, and they are presented as 1 8GB logical disk. When doing a standard install, I cannot see any internal disks. When I tried a manual install, attempting to load the sym53c8xx driver failed with an unresolved symbol: __out_of_line_bug I'm guessing that I need to load another module before the SymBIOS driver, but I don't know which. Can anyone shed any light on this please?
