Hi, this is done (i'm not sure) becouse the Installer try to write something to the CD and it's read-only. Try to copy the CD to the Hard-disk or the intaller to the hardisk. I hope this helps you. ----- Original Message ----- From: José Ernesto Jardim <ernesto@ipimar.pt> To: Mailing List SuSE <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2000 12:43 PM Subject: [SLE] Exec from cdrom

This is highly unlikely. I have installed dozens of Oracle's (also on Linux) from CD-ROM. And THAT never happened.

That's what I thought of as well. Does the user that is used to run the software have sufficient rights to the files accessed to by the program? I think the user gets them when it's him who is mounting the device. ernesto -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Not nessesarrily. Imagine running as "database" and acessing a file owned by "root" with -rwx------ permissions. I thought along these lines.... What about checking the permissions for the /dev/cdrom link and also for the device file it links to? Alternatively, if 'runInstaller' is a script, it might possibly be calling another program that you don't have permission to run...
