When did I become a SuSE finatic?
Hi everyone, I'm not sure when it happened - I'm really not. But I've come to the realization that I've become a bit finatical about SuSE. Why do I say this? I think it occurred to me yesterday as I was standing at BestBuy straighting the SuSE boxes, in their Linux section, so that they filled some of the extra space where more boxes of other distros use to be (BestBuy is out of every Linux distro besides SuSE). Yup, you heard right, I was at BestBuy straighting the SuSE display - moving the boxes closer to the edge of the rack, filling an empty row with an extra box that was behind another one, etc. AND I DON'T WORK THERE! <g> Huh... On a slightly less light note, incase you didn't see it already, SuSE was the market leader during the month of March according to their site. I quote: "Known for its technical superiority and stability, SuSE Linux claimed the highest market share with 38% of all sold commercial Linux operating systems throughout the Month of March." -Tim "Is there a such thing as SuSE Anonymous?" -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. I know how you feel...over the last several years I have fussed with
virtually all th major distros and found something
lacking, annoying or whatever in every one...SuSe too!. I recently loaded
SuSe 7.1 and was tickled ...FINALLY a
very desktop friendly distro that includes virtually everything I need in
the box without feeling it necessary to include
100's of programs that are of no interest too me....go SuSE!....I think you
got it RIGHT!

Strange you would mention that. Last fall, when my employer asked me to find a BBS system I decided to use SuSE and went to BestBuy in Lincoln to purchase a box.. While there I did exactly the same thing! :-) SuSE certianly is addictive. JLK BTW - SuSE outnumbered the RH boxes on display because they had a higher turnover. hey cool, I did the same thing right before 7.1 got out, I kept going to town to see if it was in stock yet. It wasn't, but every time I went I spread out the 7.0 boxes. Ya know, that way they'd sell the stock they had and get 7.1 in faster ;-)

Last time I looked WalMart only had RedHat. I would never buy a software at WalMart, but still, it goes to show that clueless people still think Red Hat *is* Linux. I'll be much happier when "Wally-World" (as we call it where I live) sells SuSE too. Or in place of. After all, SuSE *is* Linux right? ;-) (No please, don't flame me - I'm jesting) ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson System Administrator Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com Central Texas IT http://www.centraltexasit.com

Not a bad idea. :-)

Well, in the "sorta-good-news-dept", my local Wal-Mart sells Mandrake rather than RH. Not as good as if they sold SuSE, but it's an improvement to say the least.

Yeah, what other Linux is there besides SuSE? Or perhaps as Hertz puts it, "There's SuSE, and then there is not exactly" (okay, I changed that a bit). <g> -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Hi Jerry,

<g> Maybe SuSE should mobilize a network of SuSE users to go to their favorite computer stores to make sure there is always enough copies. :-)
SuSE certianly is addictive.
You can say that again. And stable too - now that I'm use to using Kmail rather than Outlook, I'm really enjoying the fact that I'm not always rewritting messages that got lost during crashes. :-)
BTW - SuSE outnumbered the RH boxes on display because they had a higher turnover.
Yeah. If SuSE can keep the top one or two positions in stores that would be great. The 38% market share in March is certainly impressive since 7.1 had been out for at least two weeks before the beginning of the month. Maybe by SuSE 8.0, the eWeek headlines won't say "New Linux Release" when then mean a new _RedHat_ release. :-) -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. I always check the OS section in the computer stores I visit. But, for my own personal needs I buy over the internet from Chumbo or the like to get the best discount. I'm just cheap.

KMail is my prefered email package too! I have mine set to work with several different accounts and ISPs for my wife and I.

We'll just have to 'educate' them on the difference! JLK
