(SuSE Linux 9.2 Professional) I have a (piddly) problem. I installed an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 on my fileserver and main workstation. The login splash screen still shows Version 9.1. I just installed a fresh install of 9.2 on my laptop. The laptop's login splash screen shows Version 9.2. How do you go about changing the login splash screen? (This is not something you do every day.) Any pointers will be appreciated. -- Donald D. Henson, Managing Director West El Paso Information Network The "Non-Initiation of Force Principle" Rules

Control Centre -> System Administration -> Login Manager -> Appearance -> Greeting probably is what you are looking for. I have fiddled with this on mine, so I am no longer sure whether this gives the version. hth Vince Littler

Hmm, /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, variable "KDM_GREETSTRING" seems to be more appropriate to me... ;) This will probably survive a run of 'SuSEconfig --module kdm3'. Cheers, Leen
I had a problem with trying to 'upgrade' from SLES to 9.2 where the
bootsplash screen wasn't even there!
If anyone needs to know how to fix this you:
1) Make sure the appropriate bootsplash theme is installed. (packages
bootsplash-theme-<name>.. bootsplash-theme-SuSE for example)
2) edit /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash so the line 'THEME="<name>"' is
correct (THEME="SuSE" for example)
3) run mk_initrd
4) reboot
Don't forget 3 :)
Hope that's of some help to someone.

I get real nervous when I try to rm and mv config files. I think I'll just wait for SuSE to fix it. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. -- Donald D. Henson, Managing Director West El Paso Information Network The "Non-Initiation of Force Principle" Rules

yeah, yast ->system administration -> login manager should be the same on all versions of Suse IIRC, but may only be on 9.x Have a blast, everything in Linux is customizable in one way or another. Not certain if that is a good thing or not, but it is.. and it can be an amazing time waster as well.. <G> Almost as much fun as doing desktops . -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit

On 9.1, it's in the Control Center, not Yast.
