I have bought one some months ago, then noticed that there are others out there with similar features and much more cheaper. also the firmware in my writer doe snot let me burn at a speed of 8 or 10. the next possible speed after 4 is 12 and that seems to be far to much for cheap media. with a benq cd ("benq" is actually the sound they make when dumped into the trash) at 4 everything is fine. they tell you that they can be written at speeds up to 32 but the first time i tried 12 it failed.

I bought a HP 9900ci just a few days ago, and it's running beautifully. Not the "latest" model, but it was on sale so I grabbed it. ;-) It's a combination CD-RW plus a DVD player. CD-RW speeds are 12x10x32. DVD playing is 8x. I see nothing about buffer underrun protection for it anywhere, but I haven't made a frisbee yet. I've been playing it safe and burning at 10x rather than 12x though. And DVD playback (via OGLE program) is very smooth with DMA on. I use LiteOn. A cheap CD-RW at 24x10x40 for less than US$ 80. They also have the 32x16x48x version. This drive have a buffer underun.
