Hello, I'm thinking of installing Linux SuSE 6.4 on a dual processor PC. Does anyone know if this is possible or do I have to make some special arrangements to build the kernel ? Thanks in advance H. Out of the box! Just choose the SMP kernel and enjoy the responsiveness of two CPUs doing your bidding!

It works perfectly out of the box. When you install the system from YAST it will prompt you which Kernel. Choose the SMP enabled one, I think it is Option #4. Stuart *Dual pentium II 400 (used to sound more impressive :)* On Tue, 16 May 2000 13:35:00 +0200, you wrote:

One of the cool things about SuSE is that it does work out-of-the-box with SMP machines. Do two things; install the SMP kernel during the installation process, and install kernmods.rpm instead of kernmod.rpm. That's mostly it. :) -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?" Kernmods.rpm - what is that for? Is this from 6.4 update? Thanks, stuart On Tue, 16 May 2000 10:46:47 -0500, you wrote:

The modules for SMP kernels are built differently (?) than the modules for single-processor boxen. kernmods.rpm (note the `s') is for SMP kernels, kernmod.rpm (no `s') is for single-processor machines. -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?"
