Where can I find the list of new features in 2.0? I'm especially interested to see if 2.0 will import .pdf files into the word processor or spreadsheet applications. Thanks dj tuchler

Seems as if it was about OOo 2.0, and the roadmap info can be found at http://development.openoffice.org/releases/index.html. Regards, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia http://www.noemasol.com

My first thought is that if that feature were available, it would be mentioned in the "Guide to New Features" (<http://marketing.openoffice.org/2.0/featureguide.html>), which does have an entire section on "Interoperability with Microsoft Office and Other Products" (<http://marketing.openoffice.org/2.0/featureguide.html#interoperability>). There is no mention of such a feature there.

Isn't it an essential part of the pdf idea that you can't easily do that? Does even Acrobat do that? Be interested to know if it does ... Cheers Fergus

Yes, Fergus, Adobe Acrobat most certainly can edit PDFs. The PDF spec is published openly, so there's nothing preventing an open-source counterpart to Acrobat. PDFs are not an opaque format. Generic, unrestricted PostScript is much harder to deal with, since it's a programming language (based on FORTH, originally) in which new procedures can be defined and the full computational power of a Turing Machine is available. PDF is vastly more restricted and uses a fixed set of rendering and encoding primitives. It is also much more compact, which led to the term "distilling" for the process of converting PostScript to PDF.

Ah, right! Thanks Randall. Never actually been able to afford Acrobat - let's see if the OOo people do include that enhancement Cheers Fergus

Yes, but going back to my original post in this thread, there's no mention of it in the 2.0 "Guide to New Features" (<http://marketing.openoffice.org/2.0/featureguide.html>) page. It seems like a sufficiently big deal to get mentioned there if it were indeed a part of this upcoming release.

KOffice (KWord) does that, slowly and usually fairly accurately. djtuchler

Isnt the 2.0 of Google the one that indexes the vector and velocity of every atom in the universe? :-)
