More confused now. I installed the file I downloaded into /opt/firefox. I run /opt/firefox/firefox and ask for help firefox. It says this is i686 (x86_64). But, if I ask "file /opt/firefox/firefox-bin" it says "ELF 32 bit".
cer@nimrodel:~> which firefox /usr/bin/firefox ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I rebuilt the link in /usr/bin/firefox to point at my newly installed /opt/firefox/firefox. I also ran the thing from the command line directly as "/opt/firefox/firefox" to be sure. But regardless, when I ask firefox for help->about, it says it's 64bit. One thought that occurred to me is that in Yast, I found a mozilla runtime already installed. Presumably that's 64bit too, but if I tried to delete it, I got hundreds of dependency complaints, so I left it in place. Thanks again for any more pointers.
