Wrong. You can also use Winzip to extract .tar.gz files. >But you can't make .tar.gz files.
Use Winzip 6.2 or Winzip 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck

Hmm, i don't think so. If the file is a tar and gzip file the name MUST be .tar.gz if it is only a tar file ----> .tar If the file is a tar and gzip file and the name is .tar it don't work with Winzip. Hi, For some strange reason when you download tar-gzipped Linux (or Unix) files with a Windows www-browser the names of the files are messed up. "Filename.version.number.Tar.gz" files are renamed to "Filename_version_number_Tar.tar". Change the names back to the original names and try unzipping them again. You might want to download files with FTP in the future. Hope this helps Marcel Broekman Subject: RE: [SuSE Linux] Defect CD ? Hmm, i don't think so. I tend to ignore the underscore in place of the dot. The software doesn't complain so why trouble yourself? However FTP *IS* the way to go to get files efficiently as the better FTP clients can resume if the xfer is interrupted. > > Hi, > > For some strange reason when you download tar-gzipped Linux (or Unix) files > with a Windows www-browser the names of the files are messed up. > "Filename.version.number.Tar.gz" files are renamed to > "Filename_version_number_Tar.tar". You're probably right about the underscores however *tar.gz changed into *tar.tar IS a problem! at least that's my expirience. Marcel Broekman.
