Hi Scenario: Someone has opened a thread which asks a question. Someone else has answered it satisfactorily. The answer has been useful for me, but I now have another question, based upon that answer. I post it to the thread. Have I hijacked it? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No; so long as there is a logical progression of the topic. HOWEVER: It is often good to change the subject of the e-mail, but still do a reply. You can "New Subject [Was: Old Subject]" the reply, which makes it abundantly clear to the reader(s). -- System & Network Administrator [ LPI & NCLA ] http://www.whitemiceconsulting.com OpenGroupware Developer http://www.opengroupware.us Adam Tauno Williams -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As long as subject is the same general area, its maybe ok, Especially IF you were the OP (thread starter). However, if YOU WERE NOT THE OP, and there are still ongoing discussions on the original topic, it seems to me it should be a new thread. Even with a name change it becomes a hijack in this situation and the OP is more often then not left wondering what happened to his answers, or his followup, as the herd thunders off into reminiscence of days gone by or bash script one-upsmanship. You get a pass if you hijack your own thread, to a certain degree, as long as it is not totally off subject. A new thread is also helpful in the archives of the list. When people go scanning/searching thru the archives by subject its nice to have them broken out. Also nice is the SOLVED post. I wish more people would treat it as a stop sign. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

+2 And I guess for any such topic I would from now onwards create a new thread like someone suggested me too. This is very good option when we refer in the future. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
