Hello, I was looking at today's Evolution Beta 3 announcement and even though I personally don't like gnome (Sorry, but I think GTK is very ugly. I like my KDE eye candy), I decided it might be worth trying out Evolution while eternally waiting for Aethera and Kmail to get to a place I'm satisfied with. Unfortunately, on Ximian's FTP site they only have SuSE 6.3 and SuSE 6.4 rpms (I guess they don't appreciate SuSE's support of KDE. There can't possibly be as many 6.x users out there as there are 7.x). There's 16 rpms, which doubtless will destroy my gnome/gtk installation if they aren't kosher (thereby breaking the few GTK apps I use). Is it worth trying to install these, or should I wait for SuSE 7.2 packages? Is SuSE or Ximian or anyone planning on making any rpms for 7.2? ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson System Administrator Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com Central Texas IT http://www.centraltexasit.com

There have been some good reports of Evolution on the group, so I have tried the version which came with SusE 7.2. I can't get the mail part to work. 1) Several Gdk warnings as it starts, about locale not being supprted by Xlib. 2) Error messages saying that it can't open folder files in :///home/keith/evolution/local/Inbox, (and all the other mail boxes in turn). But the folders and files are there, where it is looking. 3) Mail configuration doesn't work. I fill in my identity and use the Druid to configure the rest. Receiving Mail shows Server Type "None" and it can't be altered. The configuration is greyed out. Sending Mail is the same, then the program crashes. I have tried using it with both KDE and Gnome, as ROOT and as a USER. It's always the same! There's no Help file or manual, so I can't read that! There's something wrong somewhere! Cheers Keith

LOTS SNIPPED The evolution that comes with the SuSE 7.2 CDs is broken. The easiest install is to go to the Ximian site --> products --> download and download their version of Gnome 1.4 Try downloading the MINIMUM from Ximian, then afterwards use Ximian Red Carpet to install Evolution. This should give you the minimum Gnome setup plus Evolution. Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? Thanks very much Ralph for the information. I'll do as you suggested and download from the Ximian site. Cheers Keith On Sunday 09 September 2001 11:06 pm, Ralph Sanford wrote:
