Nicola, If you purchased the boxed version of SuSE 10.0, the multimedia pack is included. If you downloaded your 10.0 or running OpenSuSE 10.x, it is not included and will not be available via a YOU update as it was in 9.3. You'll find what you need on Packman now. end of line Lee

It's been mentioned here several times already, but I guess once more won't hurt. I was asking what packages are in the multimedia packs, not where to find them. I found a part of the answer: http://www.novell.com/de-de/linux/download/updates/93_i386.html I wanted to have a link to tell newbies which packages they need to download to get their multimedia working. I asked this on the doc-mailing list (and was told I shouild have better done this on the wiki one :-) ), and Mr. Schroeter was so kind to update the wiki pages. So you can just direct newbies to: http://www.opensuse.org/Restricted_Formats Ciao Siegbert

That is not what I was looking for. I know that you can listen to MP3s with amarok and the helix plugin. But what if you want to use xmms? Or burn your MP3s with K3b? Therefore you need the packages, that were summed up in the 4 MultimediaPacks in Suse 9.3. And Im looking for a list of those. Clear now? OJ -- "And trust no-- Trust practically no-one. All right? Just add the source list on the article and then install Mplayer and upgrade: xmms, xine, k3b, etc. That's all. If you upgrade xine there is no need to install helix engine, because amarok use xine by default. What about know ;) ? -- Marcel Mourguiart

But as k3b-mad is not installed, there is no use in adding a installation source and upgrading. You would need to know what else you need to add. OJ -- Debian est omnis divisa in partes tres, quarum unam nominari Stable, aliam Testing, tertiam qui ipsorum lingua Sid, nostra Unstable appellantur.

Add this source too: http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/ And upgrade k3b and install k3b-mad and k3b-lame in case it doesn't install automatically with the upgrade. Don't forget to upgrade kdemultimedia. -- Marcel Mourguiart

Sad to say that it took so long to get to this link. ;-( I dont want to say anything about the others, who tried to help and tried to understand me. But to get "the full multimedia experience" with Suse 9.3 or the 10.x's you nedd to do more than just install the amarok-helix plugin. That was why I was looking for this list. I had not to much time to look for it, but I was sure I had seen it. Thanks a lot, OJ -- Programming is like sex: if you make a mistake, you have to support it for the rest of your life. (unknown)

That's right. The original amarok package supports mp3 by using libmad but the amarok included in SL 10.0 cannot use libmad due to legal reasons (no contracts with Thomson and others). So it uses the helix framework of the Realplayer to decode mp3 (possible because of agreements with RealNetworks). -- Dr. Martin Sommer Product Manager Consumer Products SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstraße 5, D-90409 Nürnberg Phone: +49 (0) 911 740 530 Fax: +49 (0) 911 740 53 575 Email: martin.sommer@suse.com ----------------------------------------------------------
