[opensuse] libcrypto.so.1.1 not provided
This is on Leap 42.3 and I am using the kernel from .../Kernel:/stable/standard. Trying to install the latest kernel -- 4.15.0-1.1 -- zypper will not install a couple of its required files, and YAST (Upgrade if newer packages available) shows that 'Nothing provides libcrypto.so.1.1' which is needed by 'kernel-default-develop' and by 'kernel-syms'. However, in Tumbleweed there is no problem because there is a new(er) version of libopenssl1-1-1 installed. How to overcome the "roadblock" in 42.3: (1) ignore the dependency requirement; (2) copy libcryptoso.1.1 from TW to Leap; or (3) another way? (The openssl.org site shows that openssl-1.1.0 was released on 2 November 2017 and openssl-1.0.2n on 7 December 2017.) Any help gratefully accepted. on Tw, it is libopenssl1_1_0-1.1.0g-5.1.x86_64, and openssl-1_1_0-1.1.0g-45.1.x86_64 is available for 42.3 and libopenssl1_1_0 provides libcrypto.so.1.1 -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Then something is terribly screwed up because my up-to-date Leap 42.3 does not have openssl-1_1_0 -- please see attached :-(. BC -- Always be nice to people on your way up -- you'll see the same people on your way down.

Thanks, Andrei, I didn't think that it would be a good idea to do this :-). BC -- Always be nice to people on your way up -- you'll see the same people on your way down. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the observations, Marcus. But, sorry, a "user error"?! Why a "user error"? The kernel in '.../Kernel:/stable/standard/' is not there solely for Tumbleweed, and I have been using kernels from '.../Kernel:/...' in openSUSE for a very long time -- and this is the very first time, ever, that I have had a problem with installing the '.../stable/standard/' kernel. (The only problems that have struck were to do with compiling the nVidia driver because the driver was not [yet] aware of the changes in the new kernel.) Thank you, Andrei. I can therefore assume that a new libopenssl1_1_0 will never see the light of day for Leap 42.3 just because of that -- and with the EOL of 42.3 being 31 Jan 2019? OK, then can you please comment on my other Q which was: is it an option to ignore the dependency need for libcrypto.so.1.1 when installing kernel 4.15.1-2? Basil, you are trying to install a package built for Tumbleweed, not Leap 42.3. The package you require exists several places: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/security:/tls/openSUSE_Leap_42.3/... https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/mhnovell/openSUSE_Leap_42.3... the second was cited in the mail-list thread you apparently failed to read or understand. It does not exist in the "regular" repos but you are also not using a kernel from the "regular" repos, so you must adapt or return to using kernels that are from the "regular" repos. factory is not 42.3 tumbleweed is not 42.3 42.3 is 42.3 I hope this helps. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I hope this helps.
A person who knows how to brighten one's day! Thank you, Patrick. I'll install that needed rpm shortly. And, yes, I obviously missed the reference to the second URL you provided. Thank you , Markus. Held back in responding in the hope that this problem will be fixed in the interim -- but, as you are aware, no such luck. No mention of this problem (in your bug report) since 3 February, 5 days ago. A question then: is it a viable option to simply ignore the dependency error (need for 'libcrypto.so.1.1') when installing the 4.15.x kernel in 42.3? I've now got some 29 updates to be installed in 42.3 but all are on hold because of this need for 'libcrypto.so.1.1'.
