Hi All I am new to the linux scene and decided to install and use OpenSuse after having some fun on SuSE a couple of years ago. Anyway the installation went smoothly and I got to log in .. this is where my problems started. Its mainly related to the display. Here is my Video setup: Flatron L192WS. MSI Nvidia 8600GT 512 MB The problem is the following. The screen only displays the KDE desktop in the right 3/4 of the screen. Basically there is a blank square next to the desktop. I can see the whole desktop but it is squashed to the right. During the final bit of the install I noticed that YaST did not correctly identify my monitor and made it a VESA 1024X768 display. My monitor is not listed in the YaST configuration as well. I tried the LCD screen settings and I have not had any success. I would love to run this screen in the 1440 X 900 resolution. Ok enough background. I am worried that I am missing something here. I did NOT install the NVidia driver since YaST picked up the Graphics card. My gut feel is that this is a Video driver issue. However I am not sure. I do have the NVidia Driver on a DVD. It came with some Linux magazine. Should I install these? Any help? Please? It should still fill the entire screen even if it is running at a lower resolution than the max for your monitor (even if it is a 16:9 monitor running at a 4:3 resolution).

There are a couple of things you can try. If you want to keep using the open source nv driver, I would suggest launching SAX2 and verifying the settings there... look at what is offered, make any changes needed, and then test. The test mode will allow you to adjust the positioning, width, height etc. If you can use the nVidia binary drivers, you will probably find that the problem will go away. I would suggest you download the latest drivers (the one's on a Linux magazine DVD will be outdated), or add the nVidia repository (the best solution). It's all well documented here: http://en.opensuse.org/Nvidia C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Did this display come with a VGA cable, separate or integral? If not, does your cable have any pins missing on either end? -- "Either the constitution controls the judges, or the judges rewrite the constitution." Judge Robert Bork Team OS/2 ** Reg. Good News I finally got around to installing the NVIDIA drivers last night. I first tried SAX2 but that did not work. However all (the graphics) is now working 100%. Thanks for the help and the patience. I do have some other issues but I will start a new post for that once I have all the facts with me. BIG Thanks to those who helped.
