[opensuse] Making CHOWN sticky

Hi, Can you please remind me how to set chown so that it automatically applies itself to all files in a directory as they are added / created? Is there a direct option or must I periodically run a cron job? Many Thanks J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No. The owner is always the user who creates the file. However, you can make the group sticky, if you set the sgid bit in the parent directory (chmod g+s DIRNAME). []'s Marcelo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, Marcello, I guess that's the best I can do with the system I'm using, since I can not change the user name easily. J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The specific answer is cron. But, you may be able to accomplish your underlying goal with ACLs (access control lists). I co-wrote a basic howto a couple years ago that may help you understand the power of ACLs In particular read section 6 and see if that relates to your need. http://en.opensuse.org/How_to_share_directories_between_groups_of_users_usin...
