[opensuse] Leap42.2 - nvidia card - modesetting - artefacts
Hi *, my system is running openSuSE Leap 42.2, my graphics adapter is 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8517 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 29 Memory at f6000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at f0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M] I/O ports at e000 [size=128] Expansion ROM at 000c0000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [68] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [78] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00 Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel Capabilities: [250] Latency Tolerance Reporting Capabilities: [258] L1 PM Substates Capabilities: [128] Power Budgeting <?> Capabilities: [600] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1 Len=024 <?> Capabilities: [900] #19 Kernel driver in use: nouveau Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia I switched from the nvidia to the modesetting Xorg module recently. In general everything works as expected with one exception: I have artefacts in context menus and application menues up to complete unreadable menues. Everything else isn't distorted at all. When switching off the compositor, the problems disappear. Switching from opengl 3.1 to 2.0 doesn't help, though. Is there any setting to improve menue rendering in this situation? Or some parameter for the modesetting module oder the nouveau driver? Thx and bye. You should either use nouveau or nvidia. They don't play well together. Try to add the line blacklist nouveau to /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf to disable this driver completely. That should help.

I have similar problems. The latest nvidia drivers (anything after 367, I think) leaves junk on the screen after resume. I'm looking for ways to permanently disable 3D in KDE and the composer. I don't need fancy 3D effects on my desktop; 3D in games is enough for me. Regards, -- Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla a.k.a. Philmann Dark "It's not the universe that's limited, it's our imagination. Hi Aaron, [...]

I don't use both. I only use nouveau. The above output comes from lspci, which shows all of them. lsmod doesn't show nvidia as a loaded module.
Try to add the line
blacklist nouveau
I use modprobe.blacklist=nvidia[-uvm|-drm|-modeset] in the kernel command line. [...]

nvidia driver works perfectly here, but I use 367.57.
