I have a SuSE 9.0 machine we use as a fileserver. I just tried to add bind (named) to it for name resolution. (caching only). It shows up in ps, but nslookup can't connect to it. netstat -an is showing a listen on ::::53. Very strange, I expected the listen to be on 0:0:0:0:53 Does anyone know what is going on? FYI: I installed bind via yast and used ftp.suse.com.... as my source. I also used yast to start the dns server. -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

Have you modified your resolv.conf to use the ip of this machine? -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

Yes. Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century
Never mind and thanks for the questions.
I had a typo in the IP in /etc/resolv.conf (Actually, I put the IP of
the wrong machine in there, so nothing worked!!)

Check out your firewall and make sure that it's not blocking access to port 53. ;) NMap should be able to tell you if an outside computer can see 53 as an open port on that box. HTH! -- Warm regards, Jordan Michaels Vivio Technologies http://www.viviotech.net/ jordan@viviotech.net
