Hi; Not sure if this is really the right list for this topic, but since I will probably won't be switching from SuSE anytime soon maybe it is the right list (maybe they have better support for what I'm asking). I'm starting to think about my next PC (self built) and, in particular I'm looking into graphics cards. I'm looking for (currently) the best 2D (mainly) graphics card under Linux. As I run only Linux I don't play the latest 3D (or many games) on my PC so 3D isn't important (but some is nice as I play the occasional game of Tux Racer). I also would like DVD support (Yes, I watch DVD a lot). So far I've looked at Matrox G550 and Parhelia, and ATI Radeon 8500. Matrox are better with 2D but it looks like ATI are better with Linux support. I'm not that happy paying for dual monitor display as I'll only be using one monitor. Any suggestions? Thanks. -- Darren Harmon http://www.darrenharmon1.uklinux.net

I would suggest the best over all card is the Radeon 7500. It seems to have the best all round support these days. It's also quite affordable. They range from $52-75 depending on where and from whom you buy them. Check out pricewatch.com -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I don't like any Matrox product. I believe it's OVERPRICE. Because if you don't want 3D, any $30-40 video card will do. Even the 3D in Radeon 7500 is better than Matrox G550 And it's cheaper. If you want 3D than GeForce 4 will beat any matrox over AT LOWER PRICE. So, I don't think Matrox product have a strong point. It's only have a strong price.

Well, you don't pay extra for the dual monitor support with the Radeon 7500 (the card I have so I can speak about it). It just comes with it. The 7500 which is in the same class as the Geforce2 cards ranges from $52-75 dollars. Not bad for good 3D and 2D w/ dual monitor support if you ever get one. :) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.
