Can I upgrade a SUSE 7.2 to 7.3? I have the 7 new CD's for 7.3. Are there any issues I need to be aware of?

I succeeded on the upgrade with no problems at all. But, the general concensus on this list (from what I have gathered) is that unless you have substantial amounts of data which you want to save, a clean install is best. I had many tweaks and unique settings to my system which I did not want to recreate, as well as some substantial database data and personal files which I did not want to bother tracking down and backing up, so I upgraded. (probably just laziness on my behalf is all). Jim 01/04/02 05:17:31 PM, "Peter Kellner" <peter@seventythirdstreet.com> wrote:

I just did this, SuSE Professional from 7.2 to 7.3 and it went almost perfectly. There were 2 problems I do need to ask about. First, SuSEconfig hung at 56% on the item man_info. I finally restarted the box and this were basically fine, tho there were some minor problems. Today, I reran SuSEconfig and it ran all the way. I hope this was the right thing to do. I am still testing various stuff for other glitches as I go. Tell me if i need to do more about this. There were two glitches that bothered me. First, I run everybuddy, and when i ran it after upgrading, the characters were all boxes except the ones I actually typed myself. I fiddle around in the settings, i had already turned off AA, but not restarted KDE. I also turned off "use KDE colors and fonts." Last time i looked, alll the typed characters, mine and the other person's were clear, but the characters produced by everybuddy were still boxes. This may be a character set problem. Any advice? The other problem was a site that had worked in KDE 2.1 but now crashes Konqueror after moving around in it a bit. It works fine in Netscape Any advice here? Final question: This was right out of the box. What do I really need to upgrade, especially KDE and especially what might work with these glitches? -- Bob Rea Q: What should you say to Jesus when he returns at the end of time? Mine went without a hitch...even though I expected the worst. Haven't even had to recreate any settings...but I haven't done that much tweaking... On Fri, 2002-01-04 at 17:17, Peter Kellner wrote:
