I have the OSS driver (which BTW is pretty expensive when converted into the poor old SA Rand!) When I start it with "soundon" from the command line, I get no error messages. But I have put the command into boot.local (is that the right place?) and although it does seem to start the driver okay, I see an error message - something about modprobe not finding char-major-14 ? Is this because I'm trying to start the driver from the wrong place? Or am I missing a file or something?
That's where I have mine, and I always hear a click when it loads. I see the same error just before the driver starts, so I think it's probing to see if it is already installed. Do you get about six lines of banner telling you this is licensed for blah blah blah? Regardless of the error, it works for me, and we seem to have the soundon in the same place.
