Hi!
The dependencies I had are now ok but ... Ximian Desktop seems good and I would want to try it but it tells me that a lot of packages (KDE packages) will be removed. Why that?? I don't want it. Is it possible to install Ximian Desktop and to keep KDE? How?
I installed Ximian GNOME fine without the setup touching my KDE rpms - I'm afraid I can't help you with that.
However, what I will say is that I was not impressed with Ximian. There were a number of problems with my installation:
1. Galeon was just an empty white window, with no toolbar or menu. 2. Redcarpet doesn't start as a normal user despite prompting for the root password. You have to start from console. 3. Menus are messed up - e.g. gnome-games is installed, by games menu is empty. 4. Control Centre listing is messed up - seemingly random options appear at the top of my tree listing. 5. If you select gdm as login manager, it fails to find any config files.
To be honest, I only installed Ximian for Galeon and to see how Evolution had progressed. I used to like GNOME, but it just isn't a patch on KDE now (especially looking at the KDE 3 beta).
Sorry I can't be of more assistance!
