Xanti, I have got both AWE 32 and the AWE 64 working on SuSE 5.1 and 5.2...Hmmm. I assume you have gotten the kernel module patch for AWE32 + support. Without it, the sound module will not support AWE 32 no matter how you set it. If you have included it, tell me what you've set for the configuration, since there are some options that need to be confirmed. Just let me know!
