This is an FYI for people that _don't_ read freshmeat or get the daily app reports from there. MICQ is a kewl ICQ replacement. I mention this cause I know some people like to chat and hate these slow, flabby java based versionings of the Winbloze chat software, AIM (aol instant messenger) and Java ICQ.... MICQ and LICQ are fairly stable and the build for MICQ is _fast_ and compiles in 5 or 10 minutes. The neat thing about this program for me is it's a hack that's small, fast, takes up almost no disk space and work directly from the console, so if you don't have a monster machine, you can run it with no issues, cause you don't even need to be in X to use it. It works right from the command line. LICQ depends on QT so you'll need to have that installed to run it, but again, it's small fast, and runs nicely. Both apps are DEVELOPMENTAL so there could be bugs (besides the standard well recorded security holes of Mirabella's program ) that I don't know or haven't heard about. Anyways, I imagine most people know these apps, but in the light that I'm seeing so many people lately that are moving in from Windows and Macs and saying they are just now trying linux I thought I'd mention it as many people from that environment use AIM and ICQ.
