Secondly: there is no need at all to fiddle around with kdmrc or the like.
Been making fonts user friendly via kdmrc ever since discovering I could, probably at least 15 years, easier than rebuilding images or locating theming components. And, without any theming, it's a nice compact interface, with all the click targets within comfortably short distances of each other instead of sprawled all over a mostly empty screen.
